Breakthrough Bike Challenge 2018

T-Cell Trekkers

Thank you for supporting our effort to raise funds for cancer research. 100% of the money you donate will support investigators at U.Penn's Abramson Cancer Center (our generous sponsors cover all ride costs).

Our team name alludes to the T-cells we all have in our blood--they fight infection every hour of every day. Penn scientists are developing techniques to alter the genes of these cells to turn them into cancer assassins. These procedures hold special promise for blood cancers like lymphoma (the type of cancer MA has) and leukemia (the type of cancer my brother Tom has). Researchers from Penn and other great institutions hope to apply this technique to vanquish solid tumor cells soon. We ride to honor the mighty T-Cell!

Many of you started with us in Mary Ann's childhood back-yard seven years ago for an informal ride. Four year's ago, we joined with several friends to form the Breakthrough Bike Challenge. Two years ago, Penn asked the BBC to serve as the official ride of its Abramson Cancer Center. That's a tribute to all who have ridden and contributed in the past. Thank you.

We hope you can join us on September 16th. We have three distances mapped out in the beautiful Oley Valley. See this website for details. In addition to the breathtaking views, you will meet the winners of the grants we awarded last year, and learn first-hand how those funds are now hard at work.

Thank you again; we hope to see you on September 16th!
