HISTORY

In 2013, Chris Hall gathered together a group of friends -- Randy Bown, Jeff Krieger, Jennifer Pinto-Martin and Ernie Tracy -- to create the Breakthrough Bike Challenge in an effort to raise money for cancer research at Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center. Setting themselves apart from other cancer fundraisers, the Breakthrough Bike Challenge is guided by its mission to donate 100% of the funds raised directly to Penn Medicine's Abramson Cancer Center.

The first Breakthrough Bike Challenge was a great success - on May 25, 2014, 72 riders raised over $50,000 to support lymphoma and brain cancer research. The Breakthrough Bike Challenge saw continued success and growth in 2015. With the help of 120 riders and volunteers, the 2015 ride raised over $140,000.

On June 19, 2016 300+ participants gathered for the 2016 Breakthrough Bike Challenge!  With the help of riders, volunteers and donors, the event raised $300,000!
