2020 Virtual Ride Details

We have made the difficult but necessary decision to move the 2020 BBC ride to a virtual event. While the BBC will look different this year, the energy and important mission remain very much the same.

Join our 2020 Virtual BBC: bike, spin, run, or walk between Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, September 13th!

Track your miles and physical activity on the free Strava app as part of the Breakthrough Bike Challenge private club (instructions to download here), and join us for exciting physical and fundraising challenges.

Last year, we collectively rode more than 10,000 miles - join us as we pedal, run, and walk towards cures, and help us beat last year's mileage!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is there a registration fee?

There is a $25 registration donation per participant (biker/spinner, runner, walker, or multi-sport). 100% of your registration donation will support cancer research at Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center. It will also count towards your fundraising goal!

Are we still fundraising?

Yes! Cancer hasn’t stopped for COVID-19 and neither will we. Now more than ever, support for cancer research is critical.

Is there a fundraising minimum?

There is no fundraising minimum required to participate in the 2020 Breakthrough Bike Challenge.

How do I participate virtually?

First, register for the 2020 BBC! Once you are registered, sign up for a free Strava account via mobile app or desktop website. We have created two private BBC Strava clubs, one for cyclists/spinners to track their activity, and a separate group for runners/walkersto log their miles. Strava is compatible with many devices, including smart phones and watches, Fitbit, Peloton, and more.

Do I have to participate for the entire duration of the 2020 BBC Virtual Event?

We are asking participants to pledge to bike, spin, run, or walk a number of miles that is meaningful to you. You may complete them at any point between August 15th and September 13th. Whether you are logging your miles from your neighborhood, living room, or in spirit, we hope you will join us for the 7th annual BBC event!

Will I receive a t-shirt or other swag?

All registered participants for the 2020 BBC event will receive a t-shirt. There will be fundraising swag incentives at the $250, $500, and $2,500 levels.

100% of participant-raised funds go to support Penn Medicine's Abramson Cancer Center. Your participation fuels the research that will deliver breakthroughs!
